Altosid
IGR Fly Control Approved for
Mineral Blocks
SCHAUMBURG,
Ill. (Dec. 14, 2001) - Altosid IGR Feed-Thru is now approved
for a feeding rate of four ounces per day in mineral blocks. The
new registration approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
gives beef and dairy producers more options for using Altosid IGR
Feed-Thru in an integrated fly control program.
"This
new registration offers producers an economical, flexible and convenient
way to control horn flies," said Scott Boutilier, Starbar business
manager. "We're also working on additional registrations to
make the product available in an even broader range of nutritional
supplements."
Altosid
IGR Feed-Thru is an insect growth regulator (IGR) that effectively
controls horn flies in cattle. Altosid interrupts the horn fly life
cycle, preventing fly pupae from developing into breeding, biting
adults. Mixed into cattle feed, Altosid IGR Feed-Thru passes through
cows' digestive systems and into their manure, where horn flies
lay eggs. The product can be mixed into complete feed, concentrates,
hand feeds or mineral supplements blended for specific needs. Altosid
is also available in ready-to-use blocks.
